About Me

About Me

My name is Kali and I was diagnosed with breast cancer two weeks before my 37th birthday. Facing cancer as a young single woman has been challenging and life changing, but I also think it has inspired me to become a stronger and more independent person.

Why I Created This Blog

I have created this blog and website to share my personal journey through breast cancer. I understand and believe each person has their own unique journey through breast cancer, even if the characteristics of their breast cancer are the same.

This blog is a platform to share my experience, tools and what I have learned. My goal is to share things that have been helpful throughout my cancer journey and provide support to other women in their own battle with breast cancer.

My Breast Cancer is Triple Positive

The type of breast cancer I have is triple positive, which means the tumor is positive for HER2, progesterone and estrogen (HER2+, PR+ & ER+). HER2-positive is when the tumor is positive for a protein “Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor” which is called HER2+. As my blog articles are published, I’ll share more details about the various types of breast cancer.

The Journey Continues at UCSF

My Journey has now been over one year with another six months to go, but I feel the worst is behind me.

I am blessed and very thankful to be treated at University of California San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF). UCSF is one of the top hospitals in the US, with a renowned cancer treatment program. My team has been exceptionally supportive, allowing me to be an active participant in my treatment plan.

Personal Information

I love spending time outside hiking or taking walks with my dog. I have a black Labrador named Harper who is 8 years old and a new white Labrador puppy named Goose. I have had dogs my entire life and wouldn’t have it any other way. My dogs are like family to me and I greatly appreciate their unconditional love and companionship.

Professional Information

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of San Francisco and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Mills College, the only West Coast school providing a Child Life Program, where I completed an internship working with children in a hospital.

I have a passion for working with young children, especially those with developmental differences. I currently work as an infant developmental specialist, providing support and therapeutic interventions to children 0-3 years old who have diagnosed developmental disabilities. I love my work and find it rewarding to be able to support parents and caregivers in raising young children.
